Full Day Kindergarten

Nobody learns about how to care for and show respect for the environment!
Last week, Nobody had the pleasure of again going home with two of our students to help become a Somebody. When J.H.'s turn came around, he couldn't be more excited to show Nobody his act of kindness and how it connected to helping our Earth.

Once he brought Nobody back to school, J.H. was so eager and excited to showcase his multiple acts of kindness and the strong connections they had to one of our Read Aloud texts called, "10 Things I Can Do to Help My World" by Melanie Walsh.

This is J.H. unplugging the toothbrush from the wall when it's not in use!

This is J.H. turning off the light in his bathroom when he's about to leave the room.

It was so awesome to hear J.H. present his acts of kindness and explain the reasoning behind why he chose to do each act. A huge thank you to J.H. and his family for not only connecting the learning at home to what has been learned and explored in the classroom, but for supporting J.H. is caring for and showing respect for the environment! A great life skill!

This is J.H. turning off his Xbox since he's not using it to save energy!

This is J.H. turning off his lamp in his bedroom to also save electricity.

We hope you enjoy reading about and looking at the various pictures J.H. and his family shared with us and we hope you feel inspired to make a difference in our world!

Nobody learns from E.Z.
Last week, Nobody went home with E.Z. To show kindness to Nobody, E.Z. worked with his sister to help make the bed! As a team, they made sure that it was facing the right way, and through problem-solving and teamwork, E.Z. and his sister showed Nobody the power of working together!

Thanks to E.Z. and his family for letting us highlight this act of kindness on the blog for others to read!

R.T. teaches Nobody about the importance of family
Today, R.T. was very excited to share how he helped our Nobody doll become a Somebody! R.T.'s act of kindness involved spending some extra quality time with his younger brother and making him feel happy by pushing him on his toy car!

According to R.T., "I know he felt happy because he smiled lots." R.T. was able to explain why his act of kindness was special and elaborate on his own feelings and those of his brother.

Thank's to R.T. and his family for showcasing how even the smallest gestures go such a long way to make someone happy! A special thanks to R.T. for showcasing to us the beauty of family and spending time with siblings older and younger! We look forward to seeing what J.L. does with Nobody to help turn our doll into a Somebody! I think our Nobody's heart is getting very big!

D.K. takes Nobody home!
Last week, D.K. was extremely excited to have his opportunity to take our Nobody doll home and teach Nobody about an act of kindness! We are always so happy to see our students take on responsibility and respect for the projects in our classroom and as a team, we couldn't be more thrilled with how they've made it all their own!

To celebrate D.K.'s act of kindness, he showcased to our class how he helped his Dad clean the basement and showed Nobody what it meant to lend a helping hand. According to D.K., "My Dad felt very happy when I helped because we got to share the job and it didn't make it a lot of work." When asked how performing his act of kindness made him feel, D.K. replied by saying, "I felt proud because I knew I was helping my Dad and it made him feel happy."

Not only has this collaborative project helped teach our students to become active and global citizens both at home, at school and within the community, but it has truly allowed our students to showcase their individuality, celebrate kindness and help make our world a better place!

Thanks to D.K. and his family for sharing these wonderful photos and letting us highlight how he helped Nobody become a Somebody on the blog! (We also had a kick out of the fact that D.K. performed his act of kindness in his Dad's super cool shoes!)

Nobody visits P.B.'s family!
Today, P.B. couldn't wait to share how he showed kindness as part of our Nobody Project! He patiently waited until the end of the day to showcase his photos and talk about how he helped his sister create a bird house for a tree in their yard! What a wonderful way to teach Nobody about helping living things in our world while at the same time showing kindness towards his sister through their teamwork!

We truly loved hearing P.B. speak about how he made his bird house and how he hopes that it will help show the birds where to go and live. P.B. answered many questions from his peers around why he wanted to make a bird house, what his bird house looks like, and why he put it in the tree! Some great questions and responses were shared!

Thank you to P.B. and his family for sharing this act of kindness with us and letting us showcase how he helped Nobody become a Somebody on our collaborative blog! We hope you feel inspired by the little things in life.

S.R. teaches Nobody about cleaning up our environment!
This week, S.R. was very excited to present how he turned Nobody into a Somebody! During Nobody's home visit, S.R. decided that his act of kindness would be around helping his Dad clean up the yard outside! Not only was this a wonderful way to help his family, but S.R. also showed how it helps clean up the environment as well.

Here are some photos S.R.'s family kindly shared with us so that we could share them with you! Thank you to S.R. and his family for taking the time to participate in our collaborative project and help add another act of kindness to our Nobody and our class scrapbook!

M.D. takes Nobody home!
Today, M.D. was very excited to share his act of kindness with the class and how he helped Nobody turn into a Somebody! After feeling inspired by his peers who have shared before him, M.D. decided to teach Nobody how to set the table and help with cooking dinner.

As a way of celebrating Nobody and all that this project is teaching us, M.D. treated Nobody to some tasty treats before bed! I think Nobody also learned the beauty of sharing when visiting M.D.'s family!

Thanks to M.D.'s family for helping him perform an act of kindness and letting us share it with all of you! We look forward to seeing what S.R. does for to show Nobody kindness and help make our world a better place to be! Stay tuned!

Nobody visits J.L.'s family!
Last week, J.L. had her turn to take Nobody home! Her excitement was contagious and she came up with two acts of kindness to share with Nobody! First, J.L. wanted to help her Mom by washing the dishes. This is something that J.L. shared she likes to do all the time at home since it makes her Mom happy. J.L. explained the following steps:

"First, I take the dishes and put them in the water. Next, I take the soap and add to the dishes with the washer and then it makes the dishes clean when I scrub them."

The second act of kindness that J.L. shared with Nobody was helping to fold her blankets. Again, this is something that J.L. says she does all the time since it helps her family. J.L. was kind enough to share with us the steps she took to fold her blanket:

"First, I take my blanket and I fold it in half. Then I fold it again and again and it makes a square."

Thanks J.L. for helping turn Nobody into a Somebody and to J.L.'s family for sharing her documented photos with us! Nobody is now visiting M.D.'s family and we can't wait to see what he does tomorrow!

T.B. teaches Nobody about how to help the Earth
Last week, Nobody also had the pleasure of visiting T.B. and his family! In preparation for Earth Hour, last week we sparked conversation around ways we could help our Earth and show respect for our environment. Upon sharing students' ideas and insights, T.B. decided to use his "Home Experience" with Nobody to show Nobody all that he learned!
T.B. sorting the trash.

T.B. sorting the recycling and compost.
To being, T.B. introduced the different types of "waste" found in his home (e.g. recycling, compost, and trash). In doing so, T.B. showed Nobody how to become an active global citizen by doing his part to save our planet! He sorted the waste into the appropriate containers and ensured that he Nobody (and his brother A.B.) were witnesses to all of his acts of kindness for our planet.

Thank you to T.B. for helping make a difference in our world and for showing Nobody that no matter how little you think you are, you can help make our world a better place! We can't wait to see what J.L. does to help Nobody become a Somebody! Stay tuned!

Nobody's visit to T.P.'s home!
When visiting T.P.'s family last week, Nobody had the lovely opportunity to learn about kindness in many different ways. Throughout Nobody's visit, T.P. demonstrated kindness by showcasing small acts that helped his family in big ways! Simple steps to ensuring one learns what responsibility looks like, sounds like, and feels like helped T.P. also learn what it meant to be an active citizen within his home and for his family!

Throughout his visit, T.P. showed Nobody how jobs like sweeping the floor, folding laundry, and putting away groceries are all ways he can help out his family and in turn, show kindness and respect! Thanks to T.P. and his family for sharing your photos and for embracing the experience of turning Nobody into a Somebody in your home!

Nobody learns about responsibility!
Last week, Nobody had the opportunity to visit Z.P.'s family and learn about responsibility. While visiting Z.P.'s home, Z. taught him about the importance of tidying up his toys when he was finished playing with them - a lot of the same skills we teach here in our classroom!

Z.P. helped Nobody turn into a Somebody by showing him where all of his belongings go and how he can take care of them by making sure they are put away where they belong! Thanks to Z.P. and his family for sharing your act of kindness with us!

Stay tuned as we look forward to sharing with you how Nobody learns more from T.P. and his family this week!

Nobody learns to make tea!
Yesterday, V.D. shared her experience with Nobody and how she showed kindness to him transform Nobody into a Somebody! With her Mom feeling a little under the weather, V.D. decided that her act of kindness would be to show Nobody how to make a cup of tea to help her Mom feel better!

V.D. shared the steps she took to make her cup of tea and enjoyed showing Nobody in the process!

All of us in Room 126 send well wishes to V.D.'s Mom and we hope Nobody helped you feel better! We look forward to hearing about Z.P.'s act of kindness tomorrow when Nobody returns to our classroom! Our Nobody's heart is really starting to grow big with all of the kindness filling our classroom!

R.K. shares Nobody with her family!
Before the March Break, R.K. had the lovely opportunity to take Nobody home and pay a special visit to her Grandma in her Nursing Home. This was a very special visit since it gave R.K. the opportunity to see firsthand how to care for and show respect for her family member and how people in the nursing home show kindness everyday by taking care of others.

When R.K. returned to school with Nobody, she was excited to share the ways she showed kindness towards her family. First, she explained the photo of her and her Grandma and shared with the class how she helped feed her and carry her food from the kitchen to the table.

R.K.'s Mom kindly shared the following questions that arose from their visit to see their Grandma in the nursing home:

R.K.: "Why she is there?"
Mom: "Because she needs a special help from the nurses."

R.K.: "Why she is not wearing shoes?"
Mom: "Because she was not able to walk."

For R.K., this experience and environment really helped educate her around why people reside in these special places in our community and we are proud of R.K. for sharing her experience with us and what she learned!

Secondly, R.K. enjoyed showing kindness to her sister by helping her build with blocks, tidy up and have fun! She also helped tidy up her house!
Thank you to R.K. and her family for sharing such special moments with us and for helping support our "Who is Nobody?" project by helping teach acts of kindness! Nobody will return tomorrow from a visit to V.D.'s family and we can't wait to see how she has helped transform our Nobody into a Somebody! Stay tuned!

Nobody visits M.P and her family!
This week, Nobody paid a visit to M.P. and her family! M.P.'s act of kindness is one that most children were excited to relate to and taught Nobody that "making healthy choices when packing your lunch helps you grow big and strong!"
M.P. chose to help her Mom by packing her lunch with her sister, taking care of her sister while she got hurt and doing some work around the house!
M.P. enjoyed sharing how she helped change Nobody into a Somebody and we can't wait to see what Z.P. does!

Nobody goes home with T.D.
On Wednesday, Nobody had the lovely opportunity to go home with T.D. who just recently got back from a trip to Vietnam where he visited his family. It was so wonderful watching his peers explain to him about our Nobody project and give him examples of what they've done to turn Nobody into a Somebody!

T.D.'s act of kindness was one that he said, "made Mom very happy because she didn't have to wash the dishes that night." One SK student (D.K.), was able to make a connection back to G.V.'s act of kindness whereby she also helped her mom wash the dishes! It's great to see our students not only make connections between shared experiences, but what's even better is seeing that they are beginning to recognize that they are making a difference!

Thanks to T.D.'s family for sharing this very happy photo of T.D. doing his act of kindness! We look forward to seeing what M.P. does to help turn Nobody into a Somebody! Our buttons are certainly helping Nobody transform!

Nobody visits the house of G.V. and R.V.
Last week, Nobody had the wonderful opportunity to get two special visits in one when going home with G.V. and R.V. Not only did their family welcome Nobody with open arms, but each girl showed kindness and helped turn Nobody into a Somebody in their own special ways!
Welcome home Nobody!
For R.V., she showed kindness by helping her Mom set the table for dinner and Nobody also got his very own spot to sit at the table. Secondly, R.V. showed kindness by independently helping her sister put on her costume when playing in the house! This was a sheer act of love since it came from R.V.'s heart and wasn't asked of her by her parents. It made our hearts sing!
R.V. setting the table and teaching Nobody responsibility.
R.V. helping her sister G.V. put on her costume before playing!
For G.V., she showed kindness by helping her Mom wash the dishes! This was a very important job and according to G.V., "I made Mom feel happy because I helped her with the dishes so she didn't have to do them." These small acts of kindness go a long way in teaching our youngest learners how to build character, help others, and make the world a better place!
"I showed kindness by helping my Mom and it made her
really happy!" - G.V.
Thank you to G.V. and R.V.'s family for sharing such beautiful photos and for letting us showcase them on the blog!
Presently, Nobody is visiting T.D. (one of our SK students who recently returned from visiting family in Vietnam)! We can't wait to see how he helps Nobody become a Somebody! Stay tuned!

Nobody visits Sick Kids Children's Hospital!
Nobody's most recent adventure began by going home with C.S. last week! C.S. and her family planned an incredible act of kindness unlike any other in our class thus far. To begin, C.S. made a trip to Chapters to purchase some books.
All ready to go!
These weren't just any books nor were they purchased for her family or friends...instead, C.S. and her family made a plan to donate them to the children's library at Sick Kids Hospital downtown Toronto! How awesome is that?!
A special delivery
After making the trip to Toronto, C.S.'s generous donation will certainly put a smile on all of those children's faces! Moreover, it most definitely put a smile on the faces of her teachers, her peers and our hearts!
Visiting Sick Kids Hospital!
Thank you to C.S. and her family for their act of kindness!
Our sincerest thanks to C.S. and her family for thinking outside the box for this activity and for letting us share her act of kindness and the captured photographs on the blog for others to see and feel inspired by. C.S. was very proud to share her drawing and writing about her experience and her peers were able to make wonderful statements of appreciation for her act - a wonderful moment to be witness too!

C.S. sharing how she helped Nobody become a Somebody to the class.
Our Nobody has had such incredible experiences thus far from all of our students who have taken our doll home. Presently, he is visiting the home of G.V. and R.V. and we can't wait to see how they turn our Nobody into a Somebody!

Nobody visits E.S.'s house!
Last week, E.S. had Nobody visit his house and lots of exciting things were in store! E.S. chose to show kindness by helping his Mom cook dinner and Nobody was able to see firsthand how that made E.S.'s Mom feel! According to E.S., "I felt proud to help my Mom because I know it made her happy." Just like E.S., our students are really starting to show a deep understanding for what it means to show kindness to other people, animals and our environment and we couldn't be more proud!

In addition to helping his Mom cook dinner, E.S. had some fun with Nobody by teaching him how to bowl, playing with light sabers and enjoying his very own bed!

Thank you to E.S. and his family for helping turn our Nobody into a Somebody and for helping teach our class that through small acts of kindness, we can fill other people's buckets as well as our own!

Nobody is now visiting with C.S.'s family and we can't wait to see what act of kindness she does to turn Nobody into a Somebody! Stay tuned!

Nobody receives a "Welcome Home" Party!

J.S. also had his turn to take Nobody home last week and what a surprise it was for our Nobody! J.S. and his family decided to have their very own "Welcome Home" Party for Nobody and even J.S.'s favourite stuffed animals and loveable cat Cassie made an appearance!

Nobody arrives!
The "Welcome Home" party begins!
Throughout Nobody's time at J.S.'s home, Nobody had the lovely opportunity to learn about three different acts of kindness to help turn him into a Somebody! Thank you to J.S.'s family for the lovely photos that capture how he showed kindness to those close to him.
J.S.'s three acts of kindness (and a special photo with Great Grandpa!)
From feeding his cat Cassie and salting his Great Grandpa's sidewalk so that he or anybody else doesn't slip to helping set the table, J.S. truly showed Nobody on several accounts, the beauty of making a difference in the lives of those around him! Nobody even got his very own "bed" to sleep in as part of his visit and a farewell party before being brought back to class!

All tucked in and ready for bed!
Farewell Nobody!
Here is J.S. sharing his acts of kindness upon Nobody's return to our classroom this past week:
Thank you to J.S. and his family for sharing such special photos and we can't wait to have J.S. add them to his scrapbook page this upcoming week! Stay tuned as we continue to showcase more acts of kindness and how each student in our class is helping turn Nobody into a Somebody!

Nobody visits L.M.'s house!
Last week, Nobody got his second opportunity to enjoy the winter weather at L.M.'s house! As part of his experience, L.M. decided that his act of kindness would be to teach Nobody how to be helpful during the winter season! In doing so, L.M. decided to help his Dad shovel the snow of their driveway (which seems to be something we are doing an awfully lot of lately)!

Each student who takes our Nobody doll home, always shows excitement to share their act of kindness with our class upon its return! Here is L.M. after sharing his drawing and writing about how he helped turn Nobody into a Somebody:

Even despite the cold temperatures and inches of snow, Nobody has gotten a glimpse into the roles and responsibilities our family members take on to keep their homes, families and communities safe. Thank you to L.M. and his family for capturing a very happy picture of L.M. showing kindness and we can't wait to add his button to our Nobody this upcoming week!

Nobody learns about Canadian Winters!
Last week, Nobody had the wonderful opportunity to experience the Canadian outdoors and the aftermath of our winter ice storm! T.L. got to teach Nobody the beauty of kindness by offering a helping hand to his Dad when breaking up the ice after the storm!

"This is me helping my Dad break the ice off of our driveway after the storm!"
Today, T.L. was very excited to add his Kindness button to our Nobody to help him feel more like a Somebody. T.L. also worked on our Nobody Scrapbook by contributing his photos and writing words about his act of kindness on his special scrapbook page!

Each student gets their own page in our Nobody Scrapbook to help
see his journey to becoming a Somebody!
T.L. sharing his photos and writing with the class!

It's truly wonderful seeing our students recognize that their actions help make the world a better place! We continue to hear, "When is it my turn to take Nobody home?" daily and this makes us feel so excited to know that our students are eager to make a difference and share their actions with their peers! Stay tuned as we continue to unveil more about how our Nobody is turning into a Somebody! As of today, L.M. has Nobody visiting his home and we can't wait to see what he teaches Nobody!

Nobody visits E.S.'s family!
Over the past two days, Nobody had the lovely opportunity to visit E.S.'s family! E.S. has been brainstorming ideas for a while on how she planned to turn our Nobody into a Somebody! In our classroom, E.S. brainstormed many possible ideas prior to taking our Nobody doll home (e.g. baking in her Easy Bake oven, making and selling cards, etc).

Today, E.S. brought our Nobody doll back to the classroom and again, we celebrated her act of kindness and how it is helping transform Nobody into a Somebody! E.S. decided to go through some old clothes, sort them and then donate them to the Diabetes Association as a way of making a difference! How awesome is that?!
To begin, E.S. read Nobody a story!
Thank you to E.S.'s family for documenting her "Think Work" and for letting us showcase her learning on our collaborative blog! We look forward to adding her button to Nobody on Friday upon it's return from T.L.'s Home Visit!
Next, E.S. showed kindness by sorting through old clothes
and then donating them to the Diabetes Association!
Our SK's have truly been incredible leaders as we begin this collaborative project and the drawing and writing that they have created has been out of this world! Thank you to our families for taking the time to work with your child on this project and helping us see the value of kindness in the world around us and celebrating how we can make a difference! Stay tuned for more personal stories as Nobody continues to go home with our students.

 Nobody's First Home Visit!
We are very excited to blog about Nobody's first home visit! Over the weekend, G.B. had the opportunity to think about and perform an act of kindness to someone, something or to the environment. In doing so, she helps turn our Nobody into a Somebody by exemplifying character and learning about how to make the world a better place!

Today, G.B. brought our Nobody doll back to the classroom and we celebrated how she helped turn Nobody into a Somebody through her act of kindness!
G.B. helped her Grandma by taking care of and watering her plants.
A big thank you to G.B.'s family for taking such wonderful photographs of her performing her act of kindness and sharing them with us so that we can share them with you! G.B. was very excited to share not only share her drawing and writing, but she took pride in showcasing how she made a difference by explaining her photos to the class!
G.B. helped her Grandma clean the floor.
We hope you feel inspired by G.B.'s act of kindness and we look forward to adding her "kindness button" to our Nobody! Stay tuned as we continue to post about Nobody's Home Visits and the acts of kindness our Kindergarten students perform to help turn Nobody into a Somebody! In the meantime, please refer to our classroom website for further information: www.ourkindergartenjourney.weebly.com
